General FAQs
Start by clicking on Admissions at the top of the page in the menu. Then choose the program you are interested in: EMT-R, EMT, or AEMT. You will then choose the pathway in which you want to take the program: Traditional or Flex. After that, you can click on the Apply button and you will be taken to the page to pay the application fee. Once the application fee has been paid, please stay on that page and the registration form will pop up.
All of our class dates are listed in the Upcoming Events section on the home page. Just scroll down until you see it. It is typically in the middle of the page. You will not see every class listed but just the next one. We do start many classes throughout the year and we list them as we get the dates. Go ahead and apply. Even if you cannot start the one listed, we will update you as new ones are added.
Georgia Institute of EMS does not have pre-entry exams.
Georgia Institute of EMS offers financing options that will benefit almost any student. We also offer discounts for paid in full.
You do not need any medical background to get started. Most students enroll right out of high school or as adults looking for a career change. We normally require a high school diploma or GED, a government-issued ID, and completion of any clinical compliance items such as immunizations or background checks. Students under 18 can apply, but they will need administrative approval before enrolling.
Not at all. Our programs are designed for beginners. We will teach you the knowledge and hands-on skills you need to step into your first EMS role.
It depends on the path you choose. Traditional programs follow a steady schedule with set lab times and assignment deadlines. Flex programs give you up to a year to finish, with lab dates and many due dates arranged directly with your instructor or coach. Both cover the same material. Choose the option that fits your schedule best.
Both are hybrid programs that combine online learning with in-person labs. The difference is in the schedule. Traditional has pre-scheduled labs and firm assignment deadlines, so it feels like a regular class. Flex is built for students who need more control. You have a full year to complete the program, and most labs and assignments are scheduled by working with your instructor.
Yes. All of our programs include an online hybrid component. You will complete coursework online, then attend in-person labs to practice skills and build confidence.
Tuition depends on the program you choose. We post current pricing on our tuition pages, along with what is included. Some costs like books, uniforms, and testing fees may be extra, so please review the details before you apply.
Yes. We offer several financing options, plus discounts for students who pay in full. Our admissions team can help you choose a plan that works for you.
Yes. Once you successfully complete the program and meet all state requirements, you will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam at your level.
