The Shirley K. Jones Memorial EMS Scholarship honors the legacy of Shirley K. Jones, a pioneer in Georgia EMS and one of the state's first female EMTs. Shirley dedicated over 40 years of her life to Newton Medical Center, where she became an icon in the community. Known for her kindness and deep connection to the people she served, Shirley could recall nearly every address and family in her area. She was a *Star of Life* award recipient, recognized for her lifesaving contributions, and her willingness to always go the extra mile to help her patients. Even after retiring in 2018, she remained active as an adjunct instructor at the Georgia Institute of EMS, where she shared her wisdom and passion for the profession with new students. Shirley was also known for her playful love of Scooby-Doo and squirrels, her deep Christian faith, and her tireless commitment to serving others.
Scholarship Purpose
This scholarship supports aspiring EMTs by reducing tuition costs, making EMS education more accessible. It honors Shirley’s passion for education, learning, and service, encouraging others to follow in her footsteps.

What the Scholarship Covers:
